Real Stories: Marques and Monica Roberts
Love. Work. Repeat. (LWR) had the pleasure of interviewing Marques and Monica Roberts. Monica and I started off as coworkers a little over 7 years ago and have become life long friends. I was blessed to witness her and Marques relationship go from friendship to marriage. These two are a match made in heaven. Marques is a kind and gentle man and Monica is sweet and loving. Read along to hear about their journey to the altar and how they celebrated their first wedding anniversary.

How did you two meet & what were you looking for in a mate?
M & M: We met at Baylor University in 2000. However, we did not start dating until 2006, long after we’d graduated. At the time of meeting, we weren't sure either of us knew what we were looking for in a mate…we were just looking to PARTAY!!! Not much changed by the time we started dating. However, as we grew to know each other, we began to formulate what we valued in a mate—trust, honestly, desire, God-fearing, patience….
How long have you been married now and how did you celebrate your first year of marriage?
M & M: We’ve been married for 2 and a half years. It's seems like a lifetime. We can't image life without each other.
We celebrated our first year of marriage by welcoming a bouncing bundle of joy into our family. We had a baby...a boy!! (Smile) . He was due 2 days before our 1 year wedding anniversary, but born 10 days before it. He was the best anniversary gift any couple could ask for.

What did you find the most challenging and most rewarding about your first year of marriage?
M & M: Aside from the normal stress that pregancy can bring on (nausea, exhaustion and mood swings) we would have to say that being married was pretty wonderful. However, during challenging times, it was a different level of commitment to get through those times knowing that getting out of the situation would be a lot of work.
What advice would you give to those early in their marriage?
M & M: It is essential to KEEP GOD FIRST in your marriage!!! Always reference his word, it doesn’t take sides!
