Real Stories: Henry Sr. and Gracie Cash

Picture
I had the great pleasure interviewing a wonderful couple this month, my parents. I always enjoy spending time with them. This  interview was entertaining and funny. I thoroughly enjoyed myself as always.

My parents have been married more than 43 years.WOW! They  are a great example of a strong marriage. They taught me and my brother that family is most important and that marriage doesn’t mean you give up the things you love to do as a couple. My parents’ made sure we had everything  we needed and  everything we wanted. But they never let the scarfice for their children stop them from doing the things they loved to do  like traveling and hanging out with other great couples.  I always enjoy talking with my parents about the early days of their marriage. I hope you enjoy this interview as much as I did.

How did you meet?
H: We attended the same school, from elementary through high school.  I was performing in a comedy play in the 7th grade when in the front row there she was (Gracie laughing more than anyone else). I really think she was trying to get my attention.

G: I don’t think it was my laughing that caught his eye. We started dating in my junior year in high school, (Henry) senior year in high school and got married after high school.

What is the best part about being married?

H and G: Loving & caring for each other, having fun, traveling together, making important decision together, getting together with family & friends but most of all our two beautiful children and their families.

Do you have a favorite memory/moment that you have shared in your years together?

H and G: The birth of our Children & grandchildren and our annual New Year Eve parties we had for many, many  years.

What do you love most about each other?

G: There are so many things I love about my husband, family is very important to him, honesty and he will do whatever he can to help his family and  anyone who needs help.

H: My wife is very sweet & loving, she is a very good cook and she tells me she saves me money by frequently buying  clothes & accessories when they are on  sale.

H and G: We both trust & believe in God and we know how he has blessed us throughout our marriage.

How has your marriage changed over the years?

H and G: Marrying at such a young age 18 and 19 we grew in ways most couples did not. We were new to marriage and the city of Houston and totally depended on each other for everything. As the years went on we got better with communication and loving one another. We always wanted the same things in life and by the grace of God & lots of hard work we were blessed year after year, some easy, some not so easy. Each year brought us closer and closer.

Do you have any advice for young couples just starting out today?

H and G: Communicating with each other is very important in your marriage. Always have the love of family first, always discuss finances together, and never purchase large ticket items without discussing it with each other. Always tell each other and your children how much you love one another and most importantly always Love & Thank GOD for everything in your life. Every experience is a learning experience to make things better.

Any additional thoughts are wisdom you want to share with our audience?

H and G: It was our pleasure to do this interview and we hope this article will make a difference in someone’s life.
Always, Love, Pray & Enjoy life for it is  truly a PRESENT from GOD.
