CC's Pieces- Providing Encouragement for Marriages

I Just Want to Be Successful

By: CC Sutton
Is your spouse an entrepreneur or thinking about becoming one? Are you doing everything that you can do to help position him for success? It's not always easy to be the supportive spouse and it requires great sacrifice at times. But in the end, if we do it right together, the family wins.

My Lesson Learned

Seven years ago, Tristen Sutton entered the land of entrepreneurship. If you've ever lived in entrepreneurville, you know there are beautiful, high mountaintops and really dark and scary valleys. But what makes it more bearable to live in entrepreneurville is having someone who will stick with you through the highs and lows.

No matter how hard things have gotten, one thing has always stayed at the forefront of my mind: I trust Tristen and I know he's going to pull us through. There were lots of late nights at the office, several "no's", employee challenges and lots of headaches! But through it all, I was there to be his soft place to land. And that's really what every entrepreneur needs-- a soft place to land.

Your spouse wants to be successful. Here are 5 ways you can ensure that he is:

1. Listen. Your spouse needs to know that you care, not that you have all the answers. Remember, active listening requires your undivided attention.

2. Pray. After you understand your spouse's dreams, offer to pray over it together. Your spouse may not have all the answers on how the business is going to work, but God does.

3. Support. Set aside time to support your spouse-- jump in and get your hands dirty if you can help!

4. Understand. As we all know, building a business sometimes means extended time away from home, late nights at the office, and working weekends. Put together a schedule and make sure you make time for each other.

5. Encourage. Life is tough and the last thing we need from each other is discouragement. Extend grace to one another.

Eventually, entrepreneurville becomes a more pleasant place to live and you will start to enjoy the fruits of your labor. But make the journey easier by being supportive because remember...he just wants to be successful.
