Real Stories: It's Our Anniversary
I celebrated my 15 year wedding anniversary last month…..time definitely flies when you are having fun!
When I was thinking of what to write for this piece, I decided to look at dictionary.com for the complete definition of anniversary. As an adjective it means “the yearly recurrence of the date of a past event”. How completely boring! I then decided to check thesaurus.com to see what else the English language had to offer on the word anniversary. I was elated to find words that were more relatable than the yearly occurrence bit.
Okay, let’s see… some of the synonyms found were bash, ceremony, festival, festivity, glorification, hilarity, honoring, hoopla, joviality, jubilation, jubilee, keeping, magnification, memorialization, merriment, observance, party, performance, recognition, remembrance, triumph, wingding. Um….WINGDING??
Well, whoever took the time to create and relate these imaginative words to "anniversary" knows a lot about marriage!
When I think back over the nearly 20 years of knowing and learning about my spouse, many of my thoughts put me in a state of MERRIMENT as I think about our chance meeting and how God led us to one another without even realizing we were on that path. We had a BLAST in our young courting days (yes, I said courting- I am a little old school and a lot Southern), and felt JUBILATION when we were together! In KEEPING with tradition, my husband asked my father for my hand in marriage (I did not know this was going on by the way). We had a wonderful CEREMONY, full of FESTIVITIES as we MEMORIALIZED the moment we would spend the rest of our lives together.
We have had plenty of TRIUMPHS – 3 healthy children, and a few trials, but all great love stories do.
We continue to PERFORM at our highest levels as parents making sure our children know that they are loved and protected, and continue to HONOR our union daily.
We always kiss hello and good bye (even when I have a bit of an attitude or he left the seat up), we never end a phone conversation without saying I love you and we keep the HILARITY going consistently.
As we RECOGNIZED our 15 years of marriage, I prayed that we continue to grow in every aspect of our lives as spouses & parents. As we go through this thing called life, I thank GOD that my husband not only has as trooper for a wife, but that I also have one for a husband! There is no one I would rather have in my corner than him.
With love always……
